Autograph Authentication

As a consumer protection company, our number one goal is to protect our customers. To that end Global has assembled an all-star team of authenticators and has developed the industry's most sophisticated authentication process. Global's six step process employs a blending of proprietary state-of-the-art authentication technologies and esthetics to your item.

The process of autograph authentication is not an exact science. Items signed by Public figures are often inconsistent because shape, size, texture, quantity of items signed and the writing instruments used will vary. Other factors contributing to variations in autographs include whether the signature was obtained while the Public figure was standing up, sitting down, or on the run. Signature variations also develop over time as Public figures continue to refine their autographs. The time, place or event can also contribute to a celebrity's mood, which will have an effect on the signature.

All of these factors must be taken into consideration. Global is aware of all these challenges and has developed guidelines that are accepted as industry standards.

Each autograph undergoes a Physical Analysis and may be scrutinized by using the following criteria:

  1. Execution - The examination of a signature, pressure points and flow.
  2. Design - An evaluation of the autograph's letter formation and spacing.
  3. Known Exemplars - An autograph is compared with examples in the Global library.
  4. Accidental Signatures - The unlikely interruption occurring during signing.
  5. Incidental Signings - A spontaneous autograph occurring at an event.
  6. Ink/Medium Analysis - Used to match ink sample with the period of the piece.
  7. Object Evaluation - A process to evaluate the age and authenticity of the piece.
  8. Pedigree or Chain of Custody - Verifiable progression of ownership.
